Recently, in school administrative offices, there has been a question floating around: Should school uniforms be mandatory? Some say no for various reasons such as, freedom of speech or "this is a public school not a private school." I strongly disagree with those people and I feel that school uniforms should be mandatory for all school students in grades' pre-kindergarten through twelfth, for several reasons.
Wearing uniforms to school teaches students' discipline. Students understand that by wearing uniforms they are following a dress code. Rules like those help shape children, for when they become adults and have to enter a field were suits and ties are necessary. Students can also learn responsibility by following a school dress code. Students will learn that in order to keep their uniforms nice and clean they will have to take care of them very well. By doing that they will become responsible.
By wearing uniforms to school students can save parents money. At the beginning of school year parents can buy their children a set amount of uniforms, usually no more than five, and they can last the whole school. Except for long sleeve and short sleeve shirts. Compared to students who don"t wear uniforms, parents will usually end up buying clothes all year long for students to wear to school. Uniforms also save parents money because normally when children go to school they like to wear "name brand" clothes like Polo, Guess, Tommy Hilfiger, and Mecca to name a few. These brands can become very expensive. On the other hand, if children wore uniforms to school, parents would not have to worry about these types of clothing. They can just buy uniforms, which would be significantly cheaper.
Another reason it should be mandatory for students to wear uniforms to school is, it provides less competition between students. When students wear uniforms to school, there is no reason for them to compete with each other because they will all look the same.
