West Bank Settlements

Israel annexed east Jerusalem, with its Palestinian population, immediately after capturing the territory from Jordan in 1967 and has built housing developments for Jews there, but the annexation has not been recognized internationally(Heilprin 1.) In response to the backlash received, the Israeli Foreign Ministry accuses the council of taking a "systematically one-sided and biased approach towards Israel (Heilprin 1.) Basically, Israeli officials just continue to play the race card, even though they are violating many U.N Resolutions.

Currently, there are 121 Israeli settlements and approximately 102 Israeli outposts built illegally on Palestinian land. This includes the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights. (thecepr.org) However, another source argues that there have been 250 settlements in the West Bank, and those were established after 1967 (Gharabll 1.) French Judge Christine Chanet states, "Since 1967, Israeli governments have openly led, directly participated in, and had full control of the planning, construction, development, consolidation and encouragement of settlements (Gharabll 1.) Even though settlements are built on less than 3 percent of the area in the West Bank, Israeli settlements basically have control over 40 percent of the West Bank. This is because there are restrictions placed on Palestinians accessing their own land (Palestine Monitor.) For example, Palestinians are not allowed access to the roads that lead to these settlements; the IDF has full control over them. Thus, it's extremely difficult for the Palestinian Authority to govern the land.

These settlements are built to ensure safety", for the Israelis of course. Basically, if Israelis occupy all the land, they are ensured all control. The more territory Israel has, the more security, and Israel has more defenses. In addition, it is believed that the West Bank is considered historic homeland, which is referred to as Judea and Samaria.
