Life has always been arduous for women. All of their lives, they have been given "the shaft" from men. For a long time, women have been lower then men. Men would always get the preference over women. This was shown in the work place and in other activities such as sports. Yes, women have come far from where they were but it"s not far enough. They should be able to do whatever they want without men in their way. Men are treated better then women in the work place, the salary men make over women, and in sports. Women should be able to have the opportunity that men have when it comes to such cases as working and salary"s; but they don"t.
The most obvious place where men get treated better then men is in the place of work. Statistics show then in Connecticut, out of the 158 schools, only 30 or 19 percent, have superintendents that are women. This is noticeably a very small amount. Other insignificant amounts of women in the work place in statistics in 1999 include: airplane pilots-3.1%, announcers-21.4&, architects-15.7, mechanics .7%, and dentists-16.5%. These amounts are low to a blind man. Men are holding women back. Women should be able to become anything they want to be, including mechanics. Which are usually only men jobs. .
The next place where women are getting shafted is in the amount of money women make as opposed to men. In the 1950"s, men made an avg. of about 1,500 dollars a year. Women on the other hand, only got 800 dollars. In 1975, men made about 6,500 dollars a year and women only got 4,000 dollars. Now in 1999, men made nearly about 17,000 dollars more then women. Women have come a long way for what they where making in the "50"s, but they are still not making enough for what they are doing. Some women are doing the same jobs as men but getting paid less.
The last place women get bad treatment from is in sports. Women were never supposed to be involved with sports. They were supposed to say at home in the kitchen where they belong.
